Osteopathy - the story so far
Osteopathy - the story so far
Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, founder of Osteopathic Medicine in 1874, was heavily influenced by Native American Indian spirituality and the scope of Osteopathy was stated by Still as “Surgery, Obstetrics and General Practice to CURE ALL DISEASE” Dr. Still’s founding concepts of body, mind and spirit along with the natural ability to heal itself remain closely aligned with American Indian and Alaskan traditional healing. This holistic approach to healthcare may not be used by all osteopathic practitioners. As some may prefer a body-mind approach similar to other Western Musculoskeletal practices, that is supported by scientific evidence. This duality of osteopathic practices, one lead by evidence and the other by principles, may be a source of conflicting views within the profession and worsened by the pressures of a healthcare environment shaped by evidence.
Osteopathy is an art and philosophy of medicine encapsulating the spirit of health, alongside the physical, emotional and mental aspects.
The principles of Osteopathy: • If we alter the structure of our body we will gain better function. • If we encourage blood flow and lymphatic drainage we gain better health and recovery. • If we appreciate and contribute to ourselves and each other we can live fulfilling lives.
We can trust in ourselves to perform at our very best when we address these fundamental principles. Osteopathy is a gift to humanity. It’s a living truth and missing link between suffering and freedom. Employee wellbeing is often talked about in three parts. These being physical, mental/emotional and financial making up wellbeing as a whole. At OSTEOERGO we take into the account a fourth part - Spirituality.
Our services bring harmony and balance to these four quadrants of life. The spiritual aspect refers to the feelings of life having meaning and purpose. It gives us resilience, inner peace and helps relieve stress.
The Regulatory code set by Government have diminished Osteopathy to such a degree that it bears little resemblance to its original tenets and scope. This has greatly mislead and deprived the public and undermined the clinical authority of Osteopaths.
OSTEOERGO’s mission is to be part of the new direction in health care. Leading from the front by applying Osteopathic principles combined with allopathic and holistic approaches and coaching. OSTEOERGO is governed by principles and a commitment to health, surrendering to Divine Will to restore Divine Blueprint. Incorporating the spiritual dimension as fundamental.
